Speaking about OAuth

DDD South West

The DDD South West premiere of my new talk went quite well. Many thanks to all who attended. The feedback I got was quite good and got some very constructive comments.

Here are some comments and my response to them. Hopefully their authors will see them.

Would have liked more information about Open ID and OAuth technical details.

One hour is not enough to go to technical details or even touch Open ID. Aside of the fact that this talk is about OAuth and Open ID is not in the scope. A version I will be presenting for various user groups will be more juicy but still only about OAuth.

Slides as website worked well but use bigger font/zoom.

Yeah, got that. The next version that I will show tomorrow in Birmingham has the website modified to be more readable. Will see how it will work and I will improve it in the next iteration if necessary.

Few questions around persistent cookies unanswered.

Not sure which one so if you are reading this then please contact me.

Would be useful to see handling of returning users - what details need to be stored to support this?

Again, just one hour is not long enough. I have that in plan for tomorrow where I will have two hours to my disposal. Nevertheless I will look at how to include it to a shorter version and hopefully show it on DDD Reading. Possible I will move away from live coding here.

Great session, one of the best of the day. Many thanks.

You made my day with that one. Thanks!

Presentation skills a little poor. I was expecting something different.

That one hurt. I will appreciate, if you read this, if you could contact me and explain how I failed you expectations.

The overall results were:

Knowledge: 7.35

Presentation: 7.19

Not that bad and much better than the last DDD session I had although still miles behind the best. Will get there.

What’s Next?

I’ve created a bigger version of the talk, showing:

  • More details on OAuth
  • More details on writing a custom client
  • Handling returning users
  • Allowing users to associate multiple providers with their account

I’m also adding what’s new is coming on this front in the new ASP.NET MVC 4.0. Birmingham will not get that (sorry) but ShropshireDevNet will.

I’ve already aligned a few sessions for user groups nearby:

If you want me at your user group please contact me.

DDD Reading

I’ve also posted this talk for the DDD Reading and this one will be more focused on the  ASP.NET MVC 4.0. Please vote on me if you want to see it. See you there!
